Peeps, I’m late. Again. But better late with this, than with my period is what I’m saying 😛 (What, we’re all friends here, right? No? TMI?)
1. I don’t keep tabs on K-ent awards because they’re frankly quite bewildering. I didn’t even know today was the Baeksang Arts Awards. The only drama I care about is Secret Love Affair, and guess what? The masterminds Ahn Pan Seok PD and screenwriter Jung Sung Joo won Best Director and Best Screenwriter respectively, and were probably the most deserving winners of the night, if you ask me. (And Lee Bo Young coz she’s great too.)
How much do I love that APS cooly walks up on stage in a jeans and regular shirt looking like an absent-minded professor amidst all the glitz and glamour? So humble, and so BADASS ;). Continue reading
I’ve mostly kept silent here about Secret Love Affair during the show’s airing, although I did manage some brief incoherent gurglings about about music and mahjong and whatnot on my tumblr.
I didn’t feel I had much to add at the time because there’s been alot said about this show by many others. And the part of me that’s lazy was largely content to read what they had to say, so much of it beautifully written and thoughtful.
But now that the show is done, my blog would be remiss without committing to words a few things bout this show, one that I’d been anticipating so eagerly and had made bold predictions about.
I won’t talk about whether those predictions came true here, I’ll save that for another day. But I do want to talk about my strange and exciting journey with SLA. It was above all, a entirely new live-watch experience, and one that at the end of the day, was as rewarding as, if not more so, than the drama itself. Continue reading
Hi all, I took a week off from writing these because I hadn’t had much time of late, and I was wondering if it was even worthwhile to continue doing them. But for now I’ve decided to go on if only because it keeps me on my toes. One slight change to the schedule though: I’ll post these on Mondays from now on instead.
1. Yoon Shi Yoon joined the Marines today, and the sound of crushed fangirl hearts echoed throughout the world. The lack of fanfare though, is class I gotta say. And at the back of all our minds we’re asking ourselves, who’s up next? Yoo Ah In, Jang Geun Seuk, Lee Seung Gi, and Choi Jin Hyuk are but a few of the boys rumoured to be enlisting this year.
Girls, we need to support each other during these difficult times. Let’s make ourselves available as marathon buddies okay. It’s a poor substitute, but what can do you? I’m up for a watch of Me Too Flower soon. Anyone care to join? Continue reading
Happy Black Day! Today many swingin’ singletons in the ROK will wear black and eat jjajangmyeon (which is made from black bean paste) to commiserate over not having a romantic partner. I have no idea whether it’s widely celebrated but I do know if it were me, I’d probably stuff my face with jjajangmyeon while watching dramas and sobbing inconsolably over some OTP angst.
I don’t have much to offer in terms of reads this week as I’m quite tapped out headspace-wise. So consider this is a cheat edition as well! You’ll see why: Continue reading
I’m late once again my friends! But better late than never isn’t that what they say? In this week’s round-up: Secret Love Affair, drama reunions, getting married in Korea, Yoon Mirae, Lee Michelle and more!
1. Secret Love Affair has completely swept me away both intellectually and emotionally, and I’m not surprised that it’s a bonafide ratings hit in Korea. And here’s another sign the show has struck a chord with audiences, parodies have started flying around. SNL re-enacted the drama’s infamous piano-playing scene between Yoo Ah In and Kim Hee Ae, and go on to turn other mundane stuff like eating corn into orgasmic experiences. Which is pretty reassuring for me to note that it’s not just my mind that’s in the gutter–the whole of Korea sees the same obvious code for sex everywhere in this drama! Also the shine of Kim Hee Ae’s make-up hasn’t escaped notice but that doesn’t really bother me. Her character is blossoming like a rose in the morning dew, people!
Here’s the preview for tonight’s episode (which I haven’t seen because I don’t want to get spoiled). The plot thickens!
And speaking of Kim Hee Ae here’s a translated interview of this fab actress from that steamy Elle photoshoot. Continue reading
Friends, I’m late for this so I’ve decided to cheat and combine a few things and do the digest a little differently this week. If you aren’t watching Secret Love Affair there will be nothing here of interest I’m afraid. Sorry!
For the rest of you, keep calm and carry on.
[mild for episodes 1 -4.]
1. Episode 5 Preview
So it looks like cohabitation is in the offing, along with a pained back hug, just in case we forgot that this is truly a Kdrama. Sophisticated does not mean it can’t be makjang, right?
2. Why so sexy?
We’ve entered week two of the drama that’s been fogging up my glasses with nothing more than some spirited piano playing and online chatting. Being the professional lurker I am, I’ve seen words such as “absorbing”, “heady”, “intriguing” used to describe Secret Love Affair. The best yet described the experience of SLA as something akin to“swimming in sex soup“.
That’s right, sex soup. Continue reading
In this week’s round-up, Secret Love Affairs premiers and previews, sussing out the You From Another Star craze in China, casting news, anticipating Avengers 2 in Seoul, and beauty queens from yesteryear!
1. My most highly anticipated drama this season Secret Love Affair, hit the ground running with ratings of around 3%, pretty much assuring us that it won’t meet the fate of the PD’s previous drama which died a premature death. SLA‘s first two episodes is pretty much everything I expected–gorgeous, grown-up, and meaty. I’ve tempered my raging excitement simply because it’s much healthier. I no longer obsess–it didn’t even occur to me that tomorrow’s Monday already. Congratulate me! Continue reading
