Weekly OCDrama Digest 29th Dec – 5 Jan 2014

Happy new year folks! How goes the new year’s resolutions? I have resolved to take better care of myself, which means dropping dramas like hot potatoes. On with the news round-up this week:

1. New couples great the new year in K-ent! First Seung Gi and YoonA were outted by Dispatch and followed by Baksa  Jung Kyung Ho and Soo Young a day later.  I’m just happy that it looks like the SNSD girls are allowed to have love lives after all. Funny story about the Seung Gi-YoonA (what’s their couple name? GiYoo? SeungNA?) news: I couldn’t sleep so I woke up at some ungodly hour that night, read the news, and then fell back asleep awhile later, only to dream about Seung Gi. As expected it was pretty bizarro, but I don’t remember much except me and Seung Gi were scouring an underground shopping mall looking for food in the middle of the night. Seung Gi must have made an impression because I remember thinking, “Gosh, Seung Gi sure is a really sweet guy. A doofus though, but sweet.”

Favourites of 2013

I’m sorry to inflict yet another best-of list on you but I figured it would be good for my swiss cheese memory to jot these down for posterity.

It’s been a year of many firsts: my first year of K-drama watching, of blogging, of tumblr-ing (is that a word?), and of meeting a lovely community of fellow drama obsessives (that means you!) which has been totally awesome.

I wish everyone lots of love, happiness and many more good dramas in 2014!

These worked for me in all the ways that matter–heart, story, substance and execution–and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend every one of them. In no particular order:

Secret: A Letter to Candy

Girlfriend,

I’ve watched you for 14 episodes and I think it’s time we have a heart-to-heart, from one woman to another. Here’s where I channel Whoopi Goldberg in Ghost: Yoo Jeong, you in DANGER girl!

I don’t know much about you, where you’re from, or even what makes you tick as a person, except that you seem to attract, and are attracted to, men who are no good for you. See, the man who was okay with you going to prison in his place, that is a sign that that man is no good for you. That man, Do Hoon, is a selfish prick. Thank goodness you did eventually dump his ass. Nevermind that it was for the wrong reasons–for his own good not yours, supposedly– but hey, whatever works. And that other guy, Min Hyuk, the guy who tried to strangle you? And then graduated to stalking you, and then tormenting you emotionally and financially? And then to top it all off, forcibly kissed you in some twisted bid to show his love for you? He ain’t much better, to put it mildly. In fact, he’s worse. He’s crazy and rich, and as we all know,  there’s no limit to what wealthy, deranged men can do to women in dramaland.
